LesPierre Arrives in Las Vegas for showdown with Pedraza
Yesterday, Mikkel "Slikk Mikk" LesPierre arrived in Las Vegas in advance of his junior welterweight match against Jose "Sniper" Pedraza on Top Rank's boxing card at the MGM Grand on Thursday, June 18.
The Brooklyn-based LesPierre, 35, enters the contest with a 22-1-1 (10) professional record. While this is LesPierre's first boxing match in 2020, he's had an active year. Earlier this year, LesPierre was recognized with the WBC's Heros for Humanity Award for his work at New York's Mount Sinai hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, LesPierre started the year in a game but unsuccessful challenge to Maurice Hooker's WBO Super Lightweight championship, and finished with a unanimous decision win against Roody Paul Pierre.
Pedraza, 31, looks to pose a stern test for LesPierre. With a record of 26-3 (13) and a world champion at both 130 and 135 pounds, Pedraza has fought on a big stage multiple times. His highest-profile bout was a 2018 unanimous decision loss to Vasiliy Lomachenko in a lightweight unification title fight. In his last contest, Pedraza lost a unanimous decision to Jose Zepeda. All of three losses in Pedraza's career (Lomachenko, Zepeda, and Gervonta Davis) were against southpaws. In LesPierre, Pedraza is facing his third southpaw opponent in his last four fights.
Pedraza versus LesPierre is the main event of a six bout card which will be telecast live on ESPN at 8 PM.
